Homescreen Widget


Displayed as soon as you login, the homescreen widget is your first choice when searching for patients


  1. Type your search string into the search box, the results are refined once you begin typing - results are displayed below the search box.
    • When there are more than 10 results, the patients are displayed in a paginated table
    • When there are 10 results or fewer, the display is updated so you can view more information per patient
  2. You can type any of the following into the search bo:
    1. Surname
    2. Firstname
    3. User reference number
    4. Address
    5. Postcode
    6. Telephone number
    7. Email address
    8. Date of birth (YYYYMMDD)
    9. "sur,fir" - i.e. smi,chr
    10. "surname,firstname' - i.e smith,chris
    11. ",firstname" - i.e. ,chris
    12. ",fir" - i.e. .chr
  3. Select which branch(es) you would like to include, selecting the blank option at the top of the list will return results from all available branches - only branches you have been given access to are displayed
  4. Display the help dialog.
  5. Create a new patient record
  6. Display all patients

ALL Patients List

Accessible from the homescreen widget by clicking the Show All Patients button - search options are the same as those under Homescreen Widget


Appointment Diary

Accessible from the appointment booking screen by clicking the Find a Patient button - search options are the same as those under Homescreen Widget



A list of recent patients is also displayed, for quick access

You can use the 'Spotlight' feature to access the patient search facility within Nova.


  • From any screen in Nova, use the keyboard shortcut 'CTRL+K' to access spotlight
  • Type 'Patients' into the search box and you will see a list of options appear below



  • Click 'Search Patients' to open the patient search window


  • You can also view all patients and create a new patient from spotlight
